WHAT IS EXPERTISE?
- Authenticate
The purchase and sale of furniture, paintings and works of art very often raise the problem of authenticity and value.
Only a specialised expert, approved by a company whose code of ethics he accepts unreservedly, can determine the specific nature of the object and its value.
- Valuation
The Expert gives an estimate based on his knowledge of the Art Market. Thanks to his experience, the Expert is able to interpret the results which are available via Internet databases.
Each work of Art has two values: a realisable value and a replacement value.
- The realisable value corresponds to the average price that the object would fetch if it were presented in public at a public auction without special advertising (values used for division, inheritance, etc.).
- The replacement value corresponds to the price to be paid to replace the object on the day of the valuation by a specialist professional. A ratio of 2 to 3 is generally accepted.
Certificate of authenticity
In the case of a purchase at a public auction, the statute of limitations is five years from the date of the sale. In the case of a purchase from a market professional, if the description does not correspond to the object, the buyer will have, according to the law of 17 June 2009, a period of five years from the date of knowledge of the dispute, the cut-off date being limited to twenty years from the date on which the right arose (date of the expert appraisal).
