In 1851, he discovered the Vézelay and Morvan regions, it a real coup de coeur, and he decided to settle in Vézelay. His paintings are characterised by warm, sunny colours and peaceful settings with few or no people, which only reinforces the tranquillity of his landscapes.
His paintings met with great success and contributed to the "development of tourism" in Vézelay. From 1863 until the end of his life, he took part in art fairs, winning several medals between 1867 and 1880. The artist also exhibited in London between 1869 and 1879.
