Amédée Rosier was a pupil of painters Léon Cogniet and Carolus-Duran. His first submission to the 1857 Salon was a history painting, Le Combat naval à Sébastopol.
He traveled extensively, to Venice and Constantinople. He also crossed Egypt and North Africa. He received a third-class medal at the 1876 Salon for La Lagune, le soir à Venise. He was awarded a bronze medal at the 1889 Universal Exhibition for Venise, le Grand Canal.
