This  painting, by Karel (Charles) van Belle, depicts a fortune-teller in a moment of intense concentration. She holds a crystal ball in her hand, a symbol of divination and the search for hidden knowledge. A snake slipping through her fingers and into the sphere reinforces the idea of occult wisdom and transformation, recurring themes in the mystical arts. Alongside this central scene, small crosses add a spiritual dimension, perhaps a reference to protection or a balance between the material world and the invisible.Read more

The work's dark background creates an enigmatic atmosphere, accentuating the mystery of the scene and suggesting that divinatory knowledge lies hidden in the darkness, waiting to be revealed.
